Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has challenged the Midnight development team to build the largest and most advanced privacy smart contract network by the end of 2026. The Midnight network has shown rapid growth in smart contract deployment, fueled by strategic collaborations like its integration with Brave Wallet, creating major momentum toward redefining blockchain privacy.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has issued a bold challenge to the Midnight network development team: build the largest private smart contract system in the world by the end of 2026.

This directive follows strong technical growth in Midnight’s ecosystem, confirmed by Cardano developer advocate Stevan Lohja, signaling a critical push toward expanding Cardano’s privacy-oriented offerings.

“The smart contract deployments on Midnight skyrocketed by 44.6% in Q3, while new weekly contract creations rose by 45.4%,” Lohja noted, highlighting the expanding developer interest and activity on the network.

Despite these gains, Hoskinson has emphasized the need for the team to intensify their efforts, driving the project to outcompete existing privacy blockchains like Secret Network and Oasis Network.

Midnight’s Aggressive Growth Targets

Hoskinson’s competitive vision places Midnight directly against other privacy chains, which currently hold notable market shares—Oasis Network commanding approximately 13.6%, and Aleph Zero about 6.1%.

Midnight’s ambition is to not only close these gaps but surpass them significantly by 2026 through aggressive development and adoption.

To accelerate this growth, the Midnight Foundation is pushing the development team harder each week.

Hoskinson summarized the mandate succinctly: “Every week more aggressive.” This challenge underscores the urgency to achieve privacy scalability that appeals to both developers and users.

Midnight launched its privacy tools with select developers in late 2023 and was opened to the public in February 2024.

This public availability has allowed broader experimentation with privacy-enhancing smart contracts, contributing to the network’s rapid activity.

Transformative Privacy Through Brave Wallet

Midnight’s collaboration with Brave Wallet offers a gateway to millions of users. Brave’s browser, with over 84 million monthly users, now allows seamless management of Cardano assets and participation in Midnight’s privacy network.

Charles Hoskinson believes this integration could revolutionize web privacy for billions of users by providing advanced cryptographic protections directly in the browser.

Brendan Eich, CEO of Brave, described the integration as a significant step forward: “Cardano support broadens multi-chain choice while improving user experience without extra steps.”

The native inclusion of Midnight’s token NIGHT in Brave Wallet simplifies user engagement, facilitating growth and adoption.

The project has already overcome technical hurdles, such as addressing Ledger device errors affecting Bitcoin claims in August 2025, demonstrating the team’s responsiveness in preserving user confidence.

With the Midnight mainnet launch set for late 2025 and a 2026 target to dominate privacy smart contracts, the broader blockchain space is watching closely.

Midnight’s ability to blend privacy, scalability, and usability could redefine blockchain standards and user expectations.
