Coinbase users worldwide faced challenges accessing the platform Monday due to a significant outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the internet's largest cloud computing providers.

The disruption, originating in AWS's US-EAST-1 Region, affected multiple high-profile websites and applications globally.

The exchange swiftly acknowledged the issue on its official X account, stating, "We're aware many users are currently unable to access Coinbase due to an AWS outage.

Our team is working on the issue and we'll provide updates here. All funds are safe." The exchange reassured customers that despite the outage, user funds remain secure, mitigating concerns about asset safety during the downtime.

Signs of Recovery as Coinbase Services Return

After hours of disruption, Coinbase reported early signs of recovery. Some users began regaining access to the platform, with most core services becoming functional again.

However, the company noted that some older asset transfer requests were still pending and under investigation.

Coinbase emphasized it was prioritizing resolution efforts and promised continuous updates as the situation evolved.

The outage was a result of elevated error rates in AWS's DynamoDB service, a critical database platform powering many online services.

This technical difficulty reverberated beyond Coinbase, affecting various other platforms including Snapchat, Robinhood, Reddit, and several gaming and entertainment services.

AWS engineers were actively working to mitigate the issue and restore full functionality.
