The Solana Alpenglow switch has a date. The Solana Foundation’s Alpenglow page says the new consensus protocol activates on mainnet in epoch 1064, which starts Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at about 15:00 UTC. SOL sits four days from that moment at $103.97, per Binance spot on Saturday, October 17.

Look at Binance’s daily candles. Eleven sessions ago, on October 6, SOL closed at $120.71. It trades at $103.97 now, which is 13.9% lower. Peak was $124.95, back on September 27, and the lowest print since came October 15 at $100.62.

Solana Foundation Alpenglow page reading Alpenglow activates on mainnet in epoch 1064, which starts on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at approximately 15:00 UTC, with the line that consensus takes about 12.8 seconds today and Alpenglow targets roughly 150 milliseconds

What Changes When Solana Alpenglow Flips On

Out goes TowerBFT, the layer validators lean on today to settle transaction order. In comes Solana Alpenglow. Finality, which the Foundation puts at about 12.8 seconds now, is meant to land near 150 milliseconds. Execution is untouched, it adds, so programs, fees and transactions stay as they are.

Anza, the team behind the Agave validator client, lists mainnet-beta as 10/21 on its own Alpenglow page and states finality in 150ms. The migration spec, SIMD-0384, is marked as under review on GitHub. It requires validators to observe at least 82% genesis votes before the new protocol starts, and says plainly that the feature is not backwards compatible.

Validators have two jobs before epoch 1064 begins, per the Foundation. They must run an Agave-based client on a release built on Agave 4.3.0, and hold at least 0.8 SOL above rent-exempt in the vote account to pay the Validator Admission Ticket fee. Firedancer and Frankendancer are not supported during the migration. A validator that skips the fee does not vote or produce blocks in the next epoch, and the first charge lands at the start of epoch 1064.

SOL Price Levels: $100 Is the Line

The daily chart explains why $100 gets watched. SOL spent August 25 through September 17 trading in a band of roughly $96 to $106 before the September 18 breakout. The low inside that band was $95.82 on September 15, and two other lows sat at $97.38 and $98.00. Price is now back at the top of that old shelf, the same zone our September retest looked at from above.

Daily RSI(14) reads 38.0, worked out from Binance closes with Wilder smoothing. That is weak, not oversold. The averages disagree. SOL is under the 20-day at $113.16 and the 50-day at $109.41, yet well over the 200-day at $87.51.

Bitcoin did not fall nearly as hard. It lost 2.1% over the same ten sessions that SOL lost 10.6%, yet the 30-day correlation between the two daily return series is 0.87. Over the last seven days it is 0.94. SOL follows Bitcoin down, only about five times as far over those ten sessions.

Derivatives: Flat Funding, Rising Open Interest

Positioning ahead of Solana Alpenglow looks balanced. Funding on Binance’s SOLUSDT perpetual has hovered near zero. The three prints on October 17 were -0.0001%, +0.0013% and -0.0019%, per Binance’s funding history. Open interest on that contract stood at 9.20 million SOL on Saturday against 8.23 million on October 4, from Binance’s daily series.

CoinGlass has aggregate SOL futures open interest at $6.31 billion. Positioning reads nearly even on the 24-hour gauge, 51.68% long against 48.32% short. Over seven days the page has SOL down 4.76%. Over 30 days it is up 5.37%.

Levels for the Solana Alpenglow Week

Up case: for SOL, a daily close above $109.41, the 50-day average, points to $113.16, the 20-day average. A daily close back under $109 cancels it.

Down case: a daily close under $100.62, the October 15 low, points to $95.82 and then to the 200-day average near $87.50. A close back over $101 ends that idea.

The Solana Alpenglow switch is the one dated item on the calendar. The Foundation’s page lists epoch 1064 and the 15:00 UTC start, so that is where to check if the time moves.
