The GTC price closed Tuesday, September 29 at $0.0865. By Monday afternoon it had touched $0.2490 on Binance spot. A few hours later it sat near $0.20, still more than double the week’s start.
Nothing we could find from Gitcoin explains it. CoinGecko’s own insights panel for the token says GTC is “currently moving without a clear narrative,” and the project’s latest update is about a rebrand.

Volume Showed Up Before Any Post Did
Binance GTC/USDT averaged $0.13 million of spot volume a day from August 25 to September 29. Then September 30 did $5.5 million. October 1 did $8.3 million, and Friday, October 2 hit $23.4 million as the GTC price ran to $0.1840.
Saturday cooled off. The GTC price slid to $0.1105 on lighter trade. Sunday and Monday were the loud ones, $11.6 million and then $31.9 million by 17:00 UTC.
Sunday has the cleanest tell. From 04:00 to 16:00 UTC, Binance GTC/USDT averaged about $119,000 an hour. The 16:00 hour printed $1.88 million as the GTC price jumped from $0.1215 to a high of $0.1647. That’s roughly sixteen times the run-rate of the hours before.

Monday’s 00:00 hour was bigger still, $4.25 million, with a high of $0.2370 inside it.
Gitcoin’s Post Never Mentioned Price
The newest item on Gitcoin’s governance forum is a monthly update dated October 1, posted under the username owocki. It renames the “reboot” as Techne and says a first pilot app, Beacon, is in the app store. The SDK moves to 2027. Launch is targeted for mid-December.
One line touches the token, and it reads “the dao and gtc keep doing what they do.”

Timing doesn’t fit either. The GTC price had already run from $0.0865 to $0.1260 on September 30 before that post went up. A proposal to cut the Snapshot quorum from 2.5 million to 1.5 million GTC showed up on October 5. By then the first two legs were done.
Gitcoin’s GitHub is quiet too. The newest push in the gitcoinco organization is a mirror bot from October 3, and the next one down was last touched June 10.
Bithumb Out-Traded Binance In GTC
Where the money traded is odd. CoinGecko’s ticker data, pulled at 16:36 UTC, puts about $169 million of 24-hour volume across all venues. Bithumb’s GTC/KRW pair took 27.3% of that, $46.2 million, ahead of Binance at 24.5% and $41.5 million. BTCC had 12.2% and Coinbase 6.3%.
A Korean venue leading the tape isn’t new this week. We covered SAND jumping 42% when Upbit lifted a warning, and the AXS rally began in Seoul two days later. Upbit’s announcement feed carries no GTC item. No notice explains this one.
Size matters too. Circulating supply is 87.5 million of 100 million, market cap about $16.8 million and fully diluted value $19.2 million. On a market cap this small, modest money can move the GTC price. It printed a 188% run in six days.
Funding Went Negative On The Way Up
Binance’s GTCUSDT perpetual ran at its baseline +0.01% every eight hours through the October 1 16:00 UTC settlement. At 00:00 UTC on October 2 it turned negative and stayed there. Twelve settlements in a row, the deepest -0.926% at 00:00 UTC on October 4, the latest -0.218% at 16:00 UTC today.
Open interest on that contract grew from $1.57 million on September 27 to about $12.0 million at 16:00 UTC Monday. The hourly peak sat near $14.5 million. CoinGecko’s perps figure, across venues, reads $77.7 million.
Negative funding means shorts were paying longs at those settlements. It says who was crowded. It doesn’t say where the GTC price goes next.

GTC Price Levels On The Chart
Start wide. Weekly RSI read 49.3 two weeks ago, 72.4 last week and 75.6 now. Last week’s close of $0.1752 compares with $0.0913 the week before. Binance’s weekly high on record is $29.04 from November 22, 2021. Even today’s price sits about 99% under it.
The daily GTC price chart is stretched. Daily RSI is 78.8, and price trades roughly double the 200-day EMA at $0.0975, the 50-day at $0.0960 and the 20-day at $0.1135. The June 30 low of $0.064 is where this base started.
Zoom to the four-hour candles. The GTC price in Monday’s 00:00 bar reached $0.2449 and closed $0.1903. The 12:00 bar pushed to $0.2490 and closed $0.2177. Two tests of the same ceiling, both sold back.

Above $0.2490 the next closed-candle markers are the October 13 and 14, 2025 daily highs at $0.251. After that come the October 7 and 8, 2025 highs at $0.286. Below, the October 2 high of $0.1840 is the first shelf. Bitcoin rose 1.9% over the same seven days, and GTC’s 30-day correlation with it is 0.31.
The trigger block, on 4-hour closes at Binance spot. Up: a close above $0.2490 targets $0.2510 and then $0.2860, and the idea fails on a close back under $0.2475. Down: a close under $0.1840 targets $0.1752 and then $0.1341, and it fails on a close back over $0.1850. Between those, nothing is triggered.
Bitcoin is above its 100-day average, $85,090 against $71,526 at the 16:00 UTC check, which is the backdrop for all of it.
What To Watch Next
The Snapshot quorum proposal, 2.5 million down to 1.5 million GTC, is open for discussion on the forum since October 5. Gitcoin’s update says the Q3 budget report is due at month-end. It targets the Techne launch for mid-December, and legal work is the likeliest cause of delay.
The perpetual settles funding at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC. The next funding reading lands at 00:00 UTC Tuesday, and the Bithumb bid will show whether it’s still there by then.
