Ethereum news today is about a network that runs smart contracts: small programs that move money and enforce rules without a middleman. Ether (ETH) pays the fees to use that network and is also locked up by validators to secure it.

The list below shows our newest Ethereum stories. The sections after it explain the three things that decide most ETH headlines.

Staking and supply

Ethereum moved to proof of stake in September 2022. Since then, holders can lock ETH to validate transactions and earn rewards. When many coins are staked, fewer are available to sell, which is why staking numbers appear in so many ETH stories.

Layer 2 networks

Most everyday activity has moved to cheaper networks built on top of Ethereum, such as Arbitrum, Optimism and Base. News about those networks matters to ETH because they pay fees back to the main chain.

Funds and institutions

US spot Ether funds began trading in July 2024. Daily flows into and out of those funds are one of the clearest signals of institutional appetite, and we cover them whenever they change direction. More background sits on our Ethereum news hub.

Ethereum price analysis

Good Ethereum price analysis looks at more than one chart. ETH is priced in dollars and in Bitcoin, and the two views often disagree.

ETH against dollars and against BTC

If ETH is flat in dollars but falling against Bitcoin, money is moving into Bitcoin. That is bearish for ETH relative to the market even without a dollar drop.

Moving averages

The 200-day average is the line many funds watch. Trading above it is read as an uptrend and below it as a downtrend.

Derivatives data

Rising open interest with positive funding means traders are paying to be long. That is fuel for a rally but also for a sharp reversal. Our guide Funding Rates Explained covers how to read it.
