Bitcoin news today covers a single asset that sets the mood for the whole market. Bitcoin was created in 2009, has a fixed supply of 21 million coins, and rewards miners for securing the network, with the reward cut in half roughly every four years.
Below you will find our newest Bitcoin stories, and a short explanation of the four signals we check before writing about any BTC move.
Four signals behind most BTC moves
- Macro data. Inflation reports and central bank rate decisions change how much risk investors take.
- ETF flows. US spot Bitcoin funds publish daily inflows and outflows. Steady outflows mean buyers are stepping back.
- Futures positioning. When too many traders bet one way, a small move can trigger forced selling or buying.
- On-chain activity. Large wallets moving coins to or from exchanges can show whether holders plan to sell.
BTC news versus Bitcoin price
People search both phrases, but they are different questions. Price tells you where Bitcoin is. News tells you why. We try to answer the second one, and each story shows the chart level it refers to. For longer analysis see the Bitcoin news hub.
Bitcoin price today
This page is for readers who searched Bitcoin price today and want the reason behind the number. The live price is on any exchange. What we add is the explanation.
How to read the price quickly
Compare today’s move with the average daily range. A 1 to 3 percent move is normal. Above 5 percent has a cause, and the stories below name it.
Levels that matter
We mark the previous week high and low and the nearest area with heavy trading. Our chart stories show these on real TradingView charts.
Bitcoin price prediction
Anyone offering a firm Bitcoin price prediction for next year is selling certainty that does not exist. A better question is what the data says about direction in the next few weeks.
Cycle context
Bitcoin has historically gone through multi-year cycles around its halving, which happens about every four years. The cycle is a pattern, not a rule, and funds now play a larger part than miners.
Demand data
ETF flows and company treasury purchases are visible every week. Rising demand from both is the strongest supportive sign.
Risk data
Liquidation maps show where forced selling or buying would trigger. Price is often pulled toward those clusters.
Bitcoin ETF flows today
US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds began trading in January 2024. Each trading day, the funds report how many Bitcoin they bought or sold through investor demand. Those flows are a direct read on institutional appetite.
How to read the number
A positive figure means more money came in than went out. Sustained inflows add real buying. Sustained outflows remove it. A single day means little.
Who publishes it
Each fund issuer posts holdings daily, and data sites aggregate them. Flow figures lag the trading day by a few hours.
What flows do not show
Flows measure fund demand only. Futures traders and direct buyers can still move the price the other way. See our overview What Is a Crypto ETF?.
Bitcoin dominance today
Bitcoin dominance is Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market value. If total crypto is worth 100 and Bitcoin is worth 60, dominance is 60 percent.
Rising versus falling
Rising dominance means money is moving into Bitcoin, usually in fear, and altcoins lag. Falling dominance with rising prices often marks an altcoin season, when smaller coins outperform.
Limits of the number
Stablecoins count in the total, so dominance can fall in a crash simply because stablecoins grow as a share.
Strategy (MSTR) and BlackRock: who is buying Bitcoin
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy and led by Michael Saylor, began buying Bitcoin for its treasury in 2020 and funds purchases by selling shares and issuing debt. It reports new purchases in regulatory filings.
BlackRock’s fund
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust is the largest US spot Bitcoin ETF. It buys real Bitcoin for investors and publishes its holdings daily.
Why treasury demand matters
Company purchases take coins from the market. If buying slows, or if a company sells, markets notice. We track both in our Bitcoin coverage.
What is a crypto ETF?
A crypto ETF is a fund that trades on a stock exchange and tracks a coin. Buyers get exposure through a normal brokerage account without holding the coin.
Spot versus futures
A spot fund holds the real coin. A futures fund holds contracts. Spot funds create direct demand for the coin, which is why their launch in the US in 2024 was important.
Flows
Daily inflows and outflows are published, and we discuss how to read them in Bitcoin ETF Flows Today.
